Sophie la girafe: a 100% natural rubber toy
Latex from the rubber tree (Hevea) was first processed in 1928 using the vulcanization invented by Mr Charles Goodyear.
The rubber used by Vulli comes from the Hevea trees (rubber trees) that grow in Malaysia.
Every morning, before the daytime heat sets in, the milky liquid that oozes from the cells beneath the bark is collected
from these millions of Hevea trees. This liquid is known as “latex”.
Latex is a natural, elastic and water-resistant material that acts as an insulator and is pleasant to smell and touch.
Vulli takes this latex, heats it, and then applies a special process that includes a rotational moulding technique.
The result after 14 manual operations is the wonderful petite “Sophie la girafe“.
Sophie la girafe is a baby´s first toy, stimulating each of their senses from the age of 3 months:
Sight:
At the age of 3 months, a baby’s eyesight is still limited and they can only perceive high contrasts.
The dark and contrasting attention-catching spots all over Sophie la girafe’s body provide visual stimulation.
She then becomes a familiar and reassuring object for a baby.
Hearing:
Sophie la girafe’s squeaker keeps babies amused and stimulates their hearing.
To begin with, the funny sound Sophie makes when she is squeezed helps to stimulate baby’s hearing,
and then later, helps him to understand the link between cause and effect.
Taste:
Sophie la girafe is made of 100% natural rubber and food paint which is completely safe to chew
and similar to a feeding bottle. Her soft texture and numerous chewable parts (ears, horns, legs),
make her perfect to sooth a baby’s sore gums while teething.
Touch:
Touch is the first means a baby has of communicating with the outside world.
Sophie la girafe’s soft feel, like baby’s mother’s skin, stimulates physiological
and emotional responses that soothe a baby and promote healthy growth and well-being.
Smell:
The singular scent of natural rubber from the Hevea tree makes Sophie la girafe
very special and easy for your child to identify amid all their other toys.
Easy to grip:
Sophie la girafe’s 18cm size and shape are perfect for a baby’s small hand.
She is very light and her long legs and neck are easy for a baby to grip, even from their earliest days.
